The Role and Importance of Individual Differences Psychology for the field of Business and Management
Part 1 – The Relevance of Cognitive Style
Part 2 – Tips for Getting Your Research Published
This workshop will introduce the concept of ‘individual differences psychology’ and its relevance for the field of Business and Management studies.
By telling his own research story, the presenter will explore the relevance of a psychological construct known as ‘cognitive style’ and how this came to influence his own thinking whilst working as a research and development manager within the electronics industry.
He will then move on to consider the importance of ongoing academic research in this important area and provide advice on how to get this sort of research published in Western peer-reviewed academic journals.
Time permitting, the workshop will conclude with a short presentation of a research article recently published in the International Journal of Conflict Management entitled “The Influence of cognitive style diversity on intra-group relationship conflict, individual organizational citizenship behaviors and the moderating role of leader-member-exchange.
Steven J. Armstrong is Professor of organizational behavior at Lincoln university and emeritus professor of hull university. He previously served in the positions of: President of the Management Education & Development Division of the US Academy of Management; Chief Editor of the International Journal of Management Reviews (Impact Factor 7.6); Chartered Engineer; Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology. He has published more than 50 SSCI articles/book chapters and 4 edited books in the field of management and organizational behavior.
